ColorOS 12 is now official: this is everything new that Android 12 brings to OPPO, Realme, and OnePlus phones.
ColorOS 12 is the new version of OPPO’s customization layer, which will reach the brand’s devices over the weeks. The new version, announced this Monday globally, is based on Android 12, the latest installment of Google’s operating system.
This software will also serve as the basis for the software for Realme and OnePlus smartphones, although these two brands will include their own add-ons in their respective customization layers – Realme UI 3.0 and OxygenOS 12.
In addition to the new features of Android 12, ColorOS 12 also introduces new features developed by OPPO that we will not see in smartphones from other brands. The interface has also been refined, and despite not including support for Android 12’s automatic themes, OPPO ensures that ColorOS 12 is much more customizable software than before.
New convenience tools in ColorOS 12
The ColorOS 12 user interface has not undergone much change from the previous version. OPPO’s Infinite Design philosophy is maintained, with a simple and clear appearance, which relies on colorful and large elements for ease of use.
In this release, the system icons and animations have been updated, depending on the brand, to make the layer “more inclusive”. For this, the so-called Quantum Animation Engine has been developed, with more than 300 improved animations in the system.
ColorOS 12 also introduces performance improvements, according to OPPO, by reducing lag or interruptions after prolonged use. In that sense, they explain that the layer provides 30% less memory use, and 20% less battery use.
This new version also introduces improved privacy tools. In this sense, the company has included the functions of Android 12, such as the privacy panel, the sharing of approximate location or the indicators of the use of microphone and camera, and has added others such as Private System, Private Safe, or a blocker of apps.
The storage and data treatment policies have also been improved, and for apps, ColorOS 12 will give the option to check what permissions they have used in the last 24 hours, thus expanding the limit imposed natively by Android 12.
